Parent Support Services
Creative Coping is delighted to now offer parent support services to our community. Our experience has shown, and research confirms, that kids and teens get better, faster, when their parents or caregivers are also receiving support and coaching. We equip parents to carry skills and lessons from the therapy room into the home environment, where they can be reinforced every day and integrated into family routines.
Parent Testimonial
"Alison's five-week parenting course has been invaluable in helping me care for myself while also supporting my child. She offers a wide range of information, including research on neurodiversity, the importance of holistic care, and effective interventions. I found the peer support component especially helpful. Connecting with other parents traveling the same road helped me realize that I was a part of a supportive community. I can't recommend her course enough; you won't regret it."

Why parent coaching?
Our firm belief is that parents need emotional support just as much as their kids do. We know how difficult and isolating it can be to raise a child who is struggling with meltdowns, outbursts, or disruptive behaviors. Friends and family may offer well-meaning advice, but traditional parenting strategies and books are usually not effective with these types of issues. Without support, the parenting journey can feel overwhelming and demoralizing. Our online Parent Support Program is a five-week, group coaching experience that is specifically designed for parents of kids and teens with big emotions, explosive reactions, or frequent meltdowns that disrupt family life.

Parent coaching and support can help with:
-
Managing and understanding your own reactions. Do you get “triggered” by your child or lose control of your emotions during heated moments? Say and do things that you regret later? Parent support sessions are a great place to self-reflect about your own feelings, assumptions, and past experiences, in order to better understand your own reactions to your child. Rather than reacting in anger, you can learn to approach situations with thoughtfulness, self-awareness, and curiosity.
-
Getting on the same page. Extreme emotions and disruptive behavior issues bring incredible stress on a couple, often driving a wedge between parents. And yet, these very issues make it more important for parents to come together and provide a “united front” and consistent expectations.
-
ADHD: Did you know that individual psychotherapy is not the recommended treatment for kids with ADHD? Rather, the research indicates that the most effective non-medication treatment for the emotional and behavioral symptoms of ADHD is parent training.
You'll also get support and coaching on the following topics:

-
Creating an alliance with your child - Helping them understand that you’re on the same team
-
Behavior management - When you need to set limits, and what to say
-
Feeling good about parenting - Finding your confidence and enjoying your kid
